Mandela Day 2019 Celebrations. Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual international day in honour of our former president, Nelson Mandela. It is celebrated each year on his birthday, 18 July. The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009, with the first UN Mandela Day held on 18 July 2010 (it is not a public holiday). Mandela Day is celebrated not only in South Africa, but worldwide. This year, the Nelson Mandela Day is on Thursday, 18 July 2019. People around the world are encouraged to partake in an event for good, and spend at least 67 minutes doing something positive for their communities.

Visit a local children’s home or orphanage and read to the kids, or pack some snack boxes and fill their day with some sunshine.
Donate blood or become an organ donor and change a life forever.
Pack ‘Care Packages’ consisting of a toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, soap, cream and socks and hand them out at a shelter for the homeless.
A group of friends can head down to their local park or beach, and pick up some of the trash.
Offer to fix things at a local school or community centre.
Volunteer at a local Animal Shelter.
Give of your time and visit a Senior Centre, walk with them or just sit and talk.
